Web Development with JavaServer Pages

Web Development with JavaServer Pages is truly an excellent and in-depth tutorial in the effective use of JSPs to build Web applications. Geared toward the Web designer or intermediate Java programmer who's making a transition to JSPs for the first time, this text contains a wealth of information on basic and advanced techniques.This tutorial is as good as any that's available, and covers all of the necessary JSP directives and syntax. For each directive, possible attributes are listed in convenient tables, which makes this also a worthwhile reference to everyday JSP development that explores the nooks and crannies of JSP APIs, and how pages are built (and cached) on today's JSP platforms.

Web Development with JavaServer Pages also does a good job of showing how to design JavaBean components and integrate them into your JSPs through tags. (Ideally, beans should do the calculation and "thinking" on the middle tier, while JSPs work on the front end.) You'll learn the right way to proceed with JSPs and beans--reinforced via a number of effective code samples. A larger example, a Web database of frequently asked questions (FAQs), demonstrates the big picture with JSPs and beans. Final chapters turn toward a useful aspect of JSP, custom tags, which allow Java programmers to extend the set of available tags for JSP front-end designers. There's even a sample of interactive tags, in which tags work together with other tags, with sample code.

Web Design The Complete Reference

Web Design : The Complete Reference With so many books out on particular development tools and languages, it's refreshing to see one that tackles the overarching topic of Web design and implementation techniques. Web Design: The Complete Reference is a rare combination of design theory and detailed information on implementation. Author Thomas A Powell, who also wrote HTML: The Complete Reference, has produced an impressive sequel in this hefty title.Powell addresses topics like navigation theory and user profiling, backing up high-level discussion with excellent, practical technique. He goes beyond your garden-variety explanation of what particular features are and how to code them by specifying the problems you might face and offering solutions. You get insight you can use: how to handle those pesky frames by understanding UI consequences, keep frames from opening within themselves, and offer your users the ability to print framed pages reliably.All the bases are covered, including adding GUI interactivity, solid page layout and formatting techniques, and a look at the various Web technologies and their effect on site design. The entire work exudes the confidence of a well-seasoned writer, and the discussions leave you feeling well informed. This book bridges the gap between knowing how to build Web sites and having a holistic knowledge of all of the intricacies and pitfalls of coding for the Web. --Stephen W. PlainTopics covered:
* Web-design methodologies
* Usability
* Types of Web sites
* Navigation theory and practice
* Linking text/buttons/icons/graphics
* Search facilities
* Text handling
* Colors and images
* Building interactivity

In The Line Of Fire

In the Line of Fire: A Memoir By: Pervez Musharraf

Publisher: Free Press (September 25, 2006)

Language: English

ISBN: 0743283449

Pages: 383

Format: PDF

Book DescriptionAccording to Time magazine, Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf holds "the world's most dangerous job." He has twice come within inches of assassination. His forces have caught more than 670 members of al Qaeda in the mountains and cities, yet many others remain at large and active, including Osama bin Laden and Ayman Al Zawahiri. Long locked in a deadly embrace with its nuclear neighbor India, Pakistan has come close to full-scale war on two occasions since it first exploded a nuclear bomb in 1998. As President Musharraf struggles for the security and political future of his nation, the stakes could not be higher for the world at large.

It is unprecedented for a sitting head of state to write a memoir as revelatory, detailed, and gripping as In the Line of Fire. Here, for the first time, readers can get a firsthand view of the war on terror in its central theater. President Musharraf details the manhunts for Osama and Zawahiri and their top lieutenants, complete with harrowing cat-and-mouse games, informants, interceptions, and bloody firefights. He tells the stories of the near-miss assassination attempts, not only against himself but against Shaukut Aziz (later elected prime minister) and one of his top army officers (later the vice chief of army staff), and of the abduction and beheading of Daniel Pearl -- as well as the forensic and shoe-leather investigations that uncovered the perpetrators. He details the army's mountain operations that have swept several valleys clean, and he talks about the areas of North Waziristan where al Qaeda is still operating.

Yet the war on terror is just one of the many headline-making subjects in In the Line of Fire. The full story of the events that brought President Musharraf to power in 1999 is told for the first time. He reveals new details of the 1999 confrontation with India in Kashmir (the Kargil conflict) and offers a proposal for resolving the Kashmir dispute.
He offers a portrait of Mullah Omar, with stories of Pakistan's attempts to negotiate with him. Concerning A. Q. Khan and his proliferation network, he explains what the government knew and when it knew it, and he reveals fascinating details of Khan's operations and the investigations into them.

In addition, President Musharraf takes many stances that will make news. He calls for the Muslim world to recognize Israel once a viable Palestinian state is created. He urges the repeal of Pakistan's 1979 Hudood law. He calls for the emancipation of women and for their full political equality with men. He tells the sad story of Pakistan's experience with democracy and what he has done to make it workable.Download (28.1Mb):

Data Structures & Problem Solving With C++ [2nd Ed][M Weiss]

Format: E-Book, 879pages
Publisher: Addison WesleyEdition
Description: REV
Edition Number: 2

From the Publisher:Experienced author and teacher Mark Allen Weiss now brings his expertise to the CS2 course with Algorithms, Data Structures, and Problem Solving with C++, which introduces both data structures and algorithm design from the viewpoint of abstract thinking and problem solving. The author chooses C++ as the language of implementation, but the emphasis of the book itself remains on uniformly accepted CS2 topics such as pointers, data structures, algorithm analysis, and increasingly complex programming projects. Algorithms, Data Structures, and Problem Solving with C++ is the first CS2 textbook to clearly separate the interface and implementation of data structures. The interface and running time of data structures are presented first, and students have the opportunity to use the data structures in a host of practical examples before being introduced to the implementations. This unique approach enhances the students' ability to think abstractly.

Covering words from all around the English-speaking world, it includes articles on Aga saga, Archie, Britpop, car bra, ecological footprint, feminazi, Japanimation, loved-up, mosh, Olestra, pink pound, waitron, youthism and zaitech. How Some of the Greatest Minds in History Helped Solve One of the Oldest Math Problems in the World»
PDF 1,7 Mb 272 Pages

Sphere packing has been a hobby of mine for less than a year now, and I was drew to the subject via my interest in coding theory (error correction coding). At first glance, as I skimmedthe book at the bookstore, it seemed deceptively simple. It didn't seem to have much technical substance. I bought the book anyway, as it's really one of the only books on the subject. Thankfully, my initial reaction was wrong. The book contains alot more detail than appears. The book doesn't contain alot of math equations, in fact, it tendsto gloss over even the simple theory a little too much. I found this a tad dissapointing. However, the author throws enough scraps of information to you, that if your really interested, you can pursue the matter in further detail.
The authors writing style is friendly; written definately for the laymen. Unfortunately, the author is also very sloppy in his writing style. He constantly throws out names, dates, and shifts back in forth in time spans over decades and even centuries. Sometimes you think to yourself "what century is he talking about now." Sometimes he'll throw out the name of a mathemtician, but won't even tell you when he did his research or won't give you a good frame of reference. This can be confusing if you are trying to build a mental timeline of the history of sphere packing research. If you read the book 20 times, you might be able to extrapolate through this bad writing style... but some questions are still left unaswered.
The majority of the discussion focuses on packing spheres in 1, 2 and 3 dimensions. He explains the history of this quite well over the course of several hundred pages. Occasionally, he'll talk about higher dimensions and explain in laymens terms what you can do in higher dimensions that you can do in lower dimensions,.. and he tries to give you the gist of the idea of why mathemeticians even care about higher dimensions. I found this understandable, but dissapointing in that he didn't at least dedicate 1 chapter specifically to this topic. However, in fairness, the book is about Keplers conjecture, focusing on 3 dimensions. It's not really supposed to be about sphere packing in D > 3. As an a laymen enthusiast, I was dissapointed because I was hoping to learn more about higher dimensionality, as I really don't understand how that works.
But I think the excellent way in which the authorpresented the history has really motivated me to study this subject in more detail, so I'll seek alternative means to find out about higher dimensions.

Dracula by Bram Stoker {Audio Book}
